Biography
Christos Tolera was born, lives and works in London.
“In my work i seek to portray a fleeting, frozen moment of revelation, to engage with the viewer in a potential connection of heightened emotion, perhaps a falling in love, or an imminent loss.”
'A held breath, a secret longing
The space in between
The calm before the storm, a state suspended
The moment before a sigh of relief.'
"More recently my work has sought to engage with the romantic and poetic possibilities offered by the imagination. With representation as a starting point, i create illusionary spaces, visually referencing 17th century Dutch and Flemish still life painting and surrealism, where the symbolic, the real and the imagined converge into a believable place, where life and death co-exist in a fertile union."
